Paint Splatter

2/13/2012

I don't know which version I like better so I'll just post both. This project was cool because it was all about putting pictures together in a way that looks good which I think this does. I had trouble finding some good looking paint drips that I could use so I made my own with the paintbrush to make it look like her arms were dripping with wet ink. I wanted to use a black background but that way I couldn't use black ink or paint so I did the white halo around the image.

Color Wheel

2/08/2012
So this is my RGB Color Wheel, I like the way it came together. The outer circle is composed of Nordic rune stones and the central design is the Celtic trinity. I've always really like Celtic and Nordic symbols so I figured I'd bring them together. I had to make a copy of the background color wheel to make a smooth overlay and add more color since the layer effects I used meant there wasn't much color in the runes. I learned after I had laid all the runes out that there was an easier way to align them all to a central point and rotate around it but it was too late at that point. Oh well.

Dashie

2/3/12

Less of a space painting, more playing with the gradient tool. If you cant find the the gradient I used, "Her eyes are up there.". This was really easy and I didn't want to paint space, so I thought "Whats better than space? PONIES!" So I gave Wub Woo Rainbow-dash some sweet rainbow pupils. It was baby-time easy and I didn't have any problems.

Colorize

2/2/2012
Playing with layer overlaying and threshold adjustment to create an intense black and white image then overlaying color. As usual I'm pretty happy with it (or else it wouldn't be done and posted here...), the fiery effect I made with the red, orange, and yellow combo looks really cool. The image I used had a background that was really dark so I couldn't just use threshold to get rid of it. So I had to cut the image out with the eraser and then modify the threshold and add the color on top. I found out early on that since the layer above the picture was the one I applied the threshold and color too it was someway influencing the way the color interacted with the image. Once I hid the first layer the color went in much more naturally.

Newimal: Thorny Frilled Lizard

1/31/2012
Another picture I'm really happy with the end result of. The two animals I combined were a Thorny Devil and a Frilled Lizard. Both already were kind of over the top intimidation animals. They scare their predators away with their appearance so I figured their combination would be even more intimidating. Again using the warp, rotate, liquify, and eraser I combined the head of the frilled lizard frill and all and plonked it right down on the thorny devil's body. Then it was a matter of using Hue & Saturation setting to change the different parts of his face and frill to more closely match his new body. I ran into some trouble with the edge created between the two colors so I used a bit of paint brush to smooth it and look more natural.

Animal Texture Overlay

1/30/2012

God I really love how this came out. The idea of the project was to learn how to use the warp, rotate, transform, and the layer styles to overlay a texture on an animal. My original idea was one of the 4 riders of the apocalypse, specifically war. So I took a picture of an Arabian horse kind of sliding into a turn. I changed the hue and saturation to make the horse black and the background look even more desolate. Then came the fire both for his mane and feet and of course the skull war paint. I really learned through trial and error how to use the warp and the layer effects and added in so paintbrush work of my own to really embellish the smoke and definition on the horse.
